Class Descriptions

Class Ages Description
Mommy & Me 3
Parent & child format: rhythm, musical stories, exercise with your budding dancer, simple stretches and strengthening.
Pre Primary (Dance To Your OwnTune) 4-5 Musicality and rhythm, along with age appropriate movement and Ballet skills, and Mime
Primary 6-8 Foundational pre-ballet training with emphasis on fun and creativity in preparation for Royal Academy of Dance Syllabus, graded program.
Grades 1-3 (Level I) 9+ Technical steps gradually introduced with emphasis on musicality and proper posture, using basic barre, simple series of steps, free movement and theatrical Character Dance.
Grades 4-5 (Level II)** 10+ Continuation of Level 1 classes with greater skill, longer sequences of movement, fluid and graceful movement, Character Dance of Eastern Europe, students at this level may be able to move into the Vocational level classes and begin pointe work.
Grades 6-7 (Level III)** 11+ Further development of the Grades, concentration of performing in patterns with several students, Emphasis and performance quality.
Grade 8 Award** 12+ Beautifully choreographed syllabus showing the skills learned from levels below.
Pointe* 12+ Students with solid placement, bodies that can accommodate demands of pointe work, may begin with doctor's and teacher's approval.
Vocational Grades** 12+ Continuation of Children's Grades, designed for students wishing to study Classical ballet seriously, possibly with the goal of pursuing a career in dance or dance related subjects.
Upper Intermediate Level **   Unset class with emphasis on ballet vocabulary, linking longer more complex sequences of steps.
Vocational, Pointe, Pirouette & Batterie **   Class focusing on elements of Pointe, Pirouette and allegro batterie.
Adult Ballet Foundations of ballet with emphasis on proper posture, core strength and fluid movement. Often endurance sequence uses movement combinations from New York City Ballet Workout.

Modern Dance

9+ Students will learn a wide range of modern dance techniques based on the elements of dance: time, space, and energy. Classes are technique based and are composed of floor work, center work, movement across the floor, and improvisation.
Jazz 9+   An upbeat class that teaches classic and contemporary styles of jazz dance. Technique is taught through center work, across the floor combinations, and movement phrase work.
